POLICY
Privacy Statement
The Australian Marine Industries Federation Ltd, hereafter referred to as the AMIF, takes
privacy seriously. In December 2000, the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000 (the
Amendment Act) was passed by federal Parliament. The new Act came into effect for most
organisations covered by the Privacy Act on 21 December 2001. There are 10 National Privacy
Principles:
Collection
Use and disclosure
Data quality
Data security
Openness
Access and correction
Identifiers
Anonymity
Transborder data flows
Sensitive information
The AMIF currently retains and will from time to time collect, information from
Manufacturers’/Importers’ Identification Code holders and other associated groups and
individuals. This information is collected and used primarily for purposes relating to
contact details, in order to provide information in the form of newsletters, faxes, flyers,
prospectuses, education, and other material relevant to assisting Manufacturers’/Importers’
Identification Code holders as well as individuals, in order to promote and protect recreational
boating as a safe, environmentally responsible pastime and sport for individuals and families.
In addition, the boating community, all levels of government and other interested companies
and individuals contact the AMIF for specific and strategic information in relation to
recreational boating.
Information that is retained by the AMIF is updated upon receipt of notification of changes and
is protected from distribution outside of the AMIF.
Manufacturers’/Importers’ Identification Code holders and other associated groups or
individuals can at any time request from the AMIF the type of information that is retained
about them. Access to information about any individual or company can be given to them,
except to the extent that such information might impact on paragraphs a) to j) of Principle 6 of
the National Privacy Principles.
Wherever possible the AMIF will offer Manufacturers’/Importers’ Identification Code holders,
companies and individuals the option of not identifying them in any transactions where
information is collected or retained.
Information will not be provided to foreign countries unless an express authority is received by
the relevant member, company of individual or paragraphs a) to f) of Principle 9 of the National
Privacy Principles applies.

Requests for anonymity
Will be offered to members and others seeking or providing information in all correspondence
as well as electronic media (website and email).
Requests for Information
Requests for Manufacturers’/Importers’ Identification Code holder information by external
agencies will generally be declined. The exception to this will be where it is deemed to be in
the national interest to distribute the information, in which case, the AMIF may distribute
information to its database on behalf of an external agency. The full database or parts thereof
will not be circulated to external agencies for the purpose of advertising or soliciting business.
