Ian A McAndrew
Elected as Director of Boating Industry Association of New South Wales (BIANSW) in September 1988. Ian retired from the Board on 3rd April 2007 having completed 19½ years of consecutive service;Elected President of BIANSW in April 1992 a position he continuously held for 14 years until May 2006 when he did not seek re-election;
Currently in his 15th consecutive year as Director of the Industry’s National body Australian Marine Industries Federation (AMIF), Ian was National President from 1995 to 2000 inclusive. In that time Ian was largely responsible for the modernisation of AMIF.
Founding Director of Australian International Marine Export Group (AIMEX) and Board Member of AIMEX from 1995 to 2000;
Founding Director of Marina Industries Association of Australia (MIAA) – formerly Marina Association of Australia – and Board Member of MIAA for 12 consecutive years from 1995 to date;
Committee Member of the industry world body, International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA), International Marinas Committee and Environment Committee for 13 years from 1994 to date.
Some notable achievements are:-
- Consolidation of the finances of BIANSW and the expansion of BIANSW Board to incorporate representation from all divisional committees;
- The implementation of a long-term Strategic Plan for, and restructure of, the national organisation Australian Marine Industries Federation (AMIF) with full-time offices and staffing;
- Formation of the Marina Industries Association of Australia (MIAA) and Australian International Marine Export Group (AIMEX);
- Resumption of international activities with International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA) including hosting the ICOMIA International Marina Conference (IMC 2002) and the ICOMIA Annual Congress and Annual Meeting in 2002, both events in Sydney;
- Establishment of a modern marina facility for Sydney International Boat Shows;
- Introduction of the Clean Marinas Australia and marina operator and employee education programmes;
- Implementation of national marine industry and marina conferences;
- Improved recognition of the industry by, and closer working relationships with Federal and State Governments.
Ian’s capabilities have been recognised over the years within Industry and Government through his appointment and/or election to positions of responsibility in the government and commercial sectors.

Director – Newcastle Airport Limited for 10 years. Appointment by Port Stephens Council and Newcastle City Council to Board with responsibility to develop Newcastle Airport (Williamtown) into a key regional airport and aero space commercial centre. |
| 1993 - 2003 | Board Member – Hunter Economic Development Corporation (HEDC). NSW State Government Ministerial appointment to Board with responsibility to assist development of new industries in the Hunter Region. Chairman of the HEDC Marine Industry Task Force. |
| 1998 | Member – National Marine Safety Committee (NMSC) Industry Advisory Committee responsible for providing Industry contribution into the NMSC strategic programmes and initiatives for maritime safety in the recreational and commercial vessel sectors. Ian has also participated in committees involved with the preparation of the Federal Government’s Marine Industry Action Agenda as well as on the State Government’s NSW Maritime Council. |
