Industry Statistics

The Official 2006 Australian Marine Industry Survey and Report

Since 1998 the Australian Marine Industries Federation (AMIF) has conducted an annual survey questionnaire which has given an overview of the Marine Industry within Australia.

The main objective of the survey is to provide AMIF and its members with useful data and information which will help participants in planning for the future.

As Australians increase their leisure time and recreational activities, there has been a significant increase within the Marine Industry over the past ten years. It is therefore paramount that AMIF has accurate and up-to-date statistics which will assist AMIF to influence government policy.

The surveys are sent to Boating Industry Association members in each state. The AMIF estimates that BIA members account for about 85% of total marine industry growth product.

Within the survey there are twenty questions that can be answered. These questions cover all businesses within the Marine industry, from very small one or two person operations to large companies.

The questions address issues in regards to employment within the industry, finance, product, business location and marinas.

Sherry Donaldson, CEO of AMIF, said “In order to allow for further development within the industry it is essential that these surveys are completed. A positive response rate provides AMIF with the information that is necessary to ensure that government policy facilitates future growth“.

ICOMIA STATISTICS 2006

The latest edition of the ICOMIA Recreational Boating Industry statistics is now
available. These statistics are widely acknowledged as the most authoritative and
reliable source of information available on the worldwide recreational boating
industry. Compiled from questionnaires sent to the Marine Industry Association
(MIA) members of ICOMIA, the information comes from organisations in close
contact with the industry. All the MIAs’ members are manufacturers of boats,
engines, and equipment and service providers in the marine leisure business. This
statistics report represents information from 21 major marine leisure markets in the
world estimated to represent over 90% of the global business in the sector.
Gathering statistics in a fragmented and diversified industry, composed mainly of
many small companies, is never easy, but over the years ICOMIA has improved the
process and the resulting information is used extensively within the industry and also
as a reference by those on the fringe, interested in investing or needing to work with
the sector.

The 2006 Statistics include:-

National Statistical Reports in accordance with the ICOMIA standard format. A
market survey is included that gives a comparison of sales, trade, boating
facilities and economic issues with the previous year. The inclusion of pie charts
enables easier understanding and comparison of data.

Τable Summary of Section A. This comprehensive and very useful review
provides an excellent tool to compare statistical information of different
countries.

EU Trade Data gives import/export figures that are drawn from national
government data and comprise the best available collation of trade information.

Detailed National Statistical Reports for each country can be found in this section
in standard table format. This is a more detailed format than Section A. For
countries with larger boating industries, further statistical information is
available in more detailed national reports published by individual Marine
Industry Associations.

Super Yacht Statistics have been reproduced with the kind permission of
Showboats International.

Engine Sales, submitted by the major international recreational marine engine
manufacturers, cover all of Europe and the USA. These sales statistics include
outboard engines and personal watercraft and are provided by the ICOMIA
Marine Engine Committee (IMEC) and the US National Marine Manufacturers
Association (NMMA).
